Ed Sheeran proves a worthy headliner in Vancouver visit

Ambleside is a picture perfect setting for this sort of love-smitten tunesmithing. Stunning sunset in the background, great sound, sight lines and facilities all add up to prime venue.

The screens framing the stage were used to great effect on the driving Bloodstream, and in multiple stacked images right out of the Woodstock movie in the touching Tenerife Sea.

As dusk arrived, the crossing spots looked great as Sheeran nailed the new Runaway. This was a set highlight.

By the end of the show, nobody in the audience or listening outside the gates walked away unconvinced that this solo artist can carry a headlining spot.

From his cute asides of including a verse or two from some boy band hit into his own tune or joking about being the “ginger man,” his audience repartee is Vegas-slick and his material really resonates with his fanbase.

It will be interesting to hear his material develop further on his next album.
